UNILORIN DISRUPTED AS SSANU AND NASU BEGIN STRIKE
Activities at the University of Ilorin have been affected following an indefinite strike by SSANU and NASU. The unions are demanding improved welfare and salary adjustments.
Legitdan news report that academic and administrative activities at the University of Ilorin have been disrupted after members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions commenced an indefinite strike.
The unions held a peaceful protest at the main gate of the university on Monday, displaying placards demanding better welfare conditions, payment of withheld salaries, and a 45 percent salary increase.
They also called for the full implementation of the renegotiated 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.
Union leaders stated that the industrial action became necessary due to the government failure to conclude and implement the agreement after repeated ultimatums. They also cited unresolved salary arrears and welfare concerns affecting non teaching staff in Nigerian universities.
The strike has impacted normal operations within the institution as discussions continue over the demands raised by the unions.
